I am an artist who works primarily in representational drawing and painting. I am inspired by the complexity of the natural world, of landscapes and the human figure. I enjoy experimenting in abstraction, often referencing the flowing forms and vibrant colors found in nature. I use acrylic paint in most of my landscapes and abstract paintings; I use charcoal and oil in most of my figurative work.
I was trained in the academic tradition of figure drawing and painting from a model. I explore the human figure as a poetic composition, charged with universal emotions. I aim for my figures to have a quality that is timeless yet unmistakably modern. In my abstract works I explore another side of my creative self, aimed at creating unique designs that compliment nature.
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from Centre College in 2015, where I was awarded the top art award of my year. In 2016 I was selected as a Navasota Artist-in-Residence, and moved to Texas. After teaching art in a public middle school in Austin for two years, I relocated to Bryan-College Station, where I instruct classes in portraiture and figure drawing at Degallery. I currently teach high school art at a public school in College Station.
