DOYLE D. SHAW BIOGRAPHY Spanish Fork, Utah

Utah artist Doyle Shaw was born in Boise, Idaho and studied art at the University of Utah with the late Alvin Gittins in portrait and figure. He also studied independently with LeConte Stewart in landscape painting. who happened to live 3 blocks away in the same town of Kaysville, Utah.

After teaching a year at the University of Utah, Doyle opened a studio for full-time fine art; over the years numerous shows have followed, both one-man and combined with a number of awards garnered.
Of his work it has been said: “Doyle Shaw is a realist-impressionist landscape and figure painter of juicy pigments and sonorous color. His canvases are tied to nature with a silver-toned thread with themes resounding with the spirit of the west. He can paint toe-to-toe with most contemporary American painters and in this will be recognized as a fine artist.” Vern G. Swanson P.H.D.
Director of the Springville Art Museum
Art Historian, Author and Educator

“Doyle Shaw understands the accelerated problems involved in painting a large painting, while painting a large pile of rocks in the foreground are infused with a fiery energy he balanced with cool and warm colors, lost and found edges with a lacy tracery of muted yellow quakes off in the distance, he may have given me the desire to do landscapes again”
George Dibble
Salt Lake Tribune
Educator and Painter

Private students have sought him out for private lessons and critiques also he has hosted the Classical model drawing class in Springville for the past 21 years.

“I am enthralled with the exquisite color, design and majesty of the earth and the inhabitants upon it. Standing out in a sea of waist high grass and feeling distance take off not just see it but feel it! Seeing a cumulus cloud climbing heavenward leaving a moving a shadow of ever changing nuances of cool and warm colors moving across the landscape to excite or rest the senses.
The absolute subtle color shift from the bridge of a human nose… to the highlight on on the same nose, the infinite variety of the set of an eye to the occupational and hereditary telling gesture of a hand. The intimacy of a still life with the blast of reflected color and light off of a silver bowl, all this and more as my understanding grows more profound the more immersed in the art I become.” Doyle Shaw

Paintings by Doyle Shaw can be found in galleries in the west and south west also in private, corporate and museum collections through out the U.S.

'Like Theo to Vincent, his son, Brian Shaw, helps him manage his account, and tries his best to get as many samples of his work as possible. Doyle Shaw produces so much work, it is hard to keep up with him. As his son, I have always admired his work, and his talent, and could never measure up to his greatness, although I frequently critique his art, and we have a good time. I see him as the Renoir of his time, as far as the human figure is concerned. He is truely a master, still under the radar. Many artists are not recognized in their time, and I only wish the sheer number of his works could be catalogued.'--Brian Shaw

Brian Shaw has used the exemplary teachings of his father to develop an eye for landscape photography and always considers how a composition would look as an oil painting. His photos are also featured on fineartamerica.

Doyle Shaw currently features about a dozen paintings at the Doran Taylor interior design firm in Salt Lake City, Utah
