I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers.
My artwork consists of all these things and more as I also have lived among the Navaho, Hopi, and Lakota and the mythologies they (and I) embrace. I work with oils, pastels, scratchboard, woodcuts, gouache, etc., as well as creating bronze sculptures. My artwork is in private collections around the world including China, Paris, England, and across the U.S. My work is exhibited at the Blackhawk Art Gallery in Saratoga, WY and I am a featured online artist at Xanadu Gallery of Scottsdale, AZ.
