Growing up in North Vancouver Canada, I was encouraged by teachers to study art, but chose for a time instead to pursue music. While living in Kamloops B.C. in the mid 1990s, I returned to my childhood love of painting after years spent exploring music and fiber arts. Self taught, I developed my technique while living in Ontario, and began showing my work. Although I sometimes use other water mixable media such as casein and gouache, transparent watercolor remains my passion. I love watercolor’s handling qualities, and paint using a combination of freely applied wet in wet brushstrokes and carefully controlled glazing techniques. Capturing a credible likeness in a portrait, or the glowing shimmer of light in a still life is important for me to convey. I seek to express the honesty of realism, and to convey the beauty found in details. After nearly 15 years in Ontario, I am thrilled to again be inspired by the beauty of B.C. and have recently settled in Chilliwack. In 2013 I became an active member with the Federation of Canadian Artists.
