I invite you into my world. My camera has been a passport to adventure. It has taken me to over 100 countries and allowed me to span continents at the speed of sound aboard the Concorde. I carried my camera to the depths of the ocean to explore coral reefs and swim through shimmering schools of silver fish. It has unlocked doors of both ancient castles in Europe and mud huts on the edge of the Sahara. I have photographed presidents and marched with Martin Luther King for civil rights. I invite you to share my adventures through my photographs on this site. Currently I have 14275 images on Fine Art America. These are pictures frozen in time.

Obviously all images on this site can be ordered in a wide range of sizes, on various papers, a variety of frames and even on stretched canvas. The FAA quality is excellent. In addition, any of my images can be used for publication, advertising or commercial display. Just contact me by phone at
(352) 243-3691 or by e-mail at carlpix474@gmail.com.

Often I wonder about the people that I photographed during my travels. Are they still alive? Do they have enough food? Their faces are preserved for posterity, but they have grown older and, of course, so have I. Many are on color slide film, but for the past 20 years my cameras have been digital.

Photography is a powerful medium, enhanced by the Internet. Today we live in a global village and Fine Art America is an art museum that provides a showcase for anyone with artistic talent and an Internet connection. It is inspiring to see what people from all parts of the world have created. It is like walking through the galleries of the Louvre, the Hermitage, the Prado or the Metropolitan.

I was introduced to photography by Henry Holmes Smith, a strongly opinionated teacher in the art department at Indiana University. He taught me to see the world and record it on my camera and I will always be grateful to him for the inspiration that led me into my career. Thanks to my ability as a photographer I was able to travel to over 100 countries to take the pictures you can view on this site.

My first job with the government was as the staff photographer for the Peace Corps. The day I joined this unique agency, I left on a trip around the world. In the following years I visited volunteers on remote islands in the Pacific and isolated villages in Africa. My camera recorded thousands of images of these idealistic young Americans and the people they worked with. President Jack Kennedy said, 'Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country' and their response is history. I was proud to be part of that history.

I conducted about a dozen camera safaris to East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania) and photographed annual migrations that took place on the Masai Mara and Serengeti. It was amazing to see the huge herds of zebra and wildebeest as they crossed the Mara River in central Kenya. These safaris allowed me to photograph every animal native to Africa and my images can be viewed on this site. On a trip to South Africa I even rode on an ostrich. Eventually my travels took me to countries including all of Africa and Europe. I was inspired by Ernest Hemingway, Ansel Adams Cartier Bresson and Jaques Costeau.

My photography has been published in LIFE, LOOK, PARADE, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, PARIS MATCH and STERN in Germany and my column 'The Traveling Camera' appeared in almost every major newspaper in North America. I also wrote a monthly column in POPULAR PHOTOGRAPHY magazine for 17 years. My commercial images are available on Corbis and Getty.

I can vouch for the superb quality of prints ordered through Fine Art America. I have ordered prints of my images up to 3 x 4 feet stretched on canvas. The detail and color is amazing.

Many of these images are also available for editorial or advertising use. You can contact me directly at carlpix474@gmail.com or by phone at (352) 243-3691.
