Drawn to the wilderness even as a young boy my talent, as a pencil artist only became apparent at the age of thirty when I finally discovered I could draw something other then just stickmen.
I began to draw full time the winter of 2012-13 and to this day except for a burp of about eight months have continued to do so. I like to be challenged and thus not only artistically, but in my everyday life. That is how I began a life of solitude far from the reaches of civilization and am to all accounts considered a hermit.
I spent 8 years in the Chilcotins of British Columbia, Canada snowbound for seven months each winter which meant I needed to bring in enough food for two hundred and forty breakfast, lunch and dinners. The cabin I stayed in was at 5,000 feet in the mountains without running water or electrcity. That first winter was the toughest as I ate beans and rice for the majority of the winter. The big bonus was I was in a log cabin in the middle of the wilderness and with not much to keep me occupied I drew and wrote books about all my daily life and wildlife interactions.
This winter I am at Mile 747 on the Alaskan Highway an hour and a half from Watson Lake and some 86 km from the nearest general store at Teslin, Yukon Territory and a three hour drive from Whitehorse in good weather. I have not been in the winter yet, but I am sure you can add a few extra hours perhaps nine hours for a return trip.
Self taught...practice...practice...practice each new drawing better than the previous one.
