Whilst I was a Research Scientist I had been a keen hobbyist photographer but now photography is my full-time profession. Photography is a fantastically creative medium. Like the longer established medium of paint, styles and interpretation of subjects is only limited by our own imaginations. With my images I am trying to explore these limits.
My love for the medium of photography pre-dates the digital era. I have my own darkroom for printing both Black+White and Colour (from slides). When printing photographs one not only has the opportunity of being creative during the taking of the photograph, but also the ability to modify that image during printing. In the darkroom I created a variety of original styles.
Digital photography opens up infinitely more possibilities for post-image collection manipulation, and that excites me. My manipulations may use Photoshop filters, but also I photomontage images together to follow the action through a sequence.
My preferred subjects are wildlife and landscape and I’m always looking for that 'new' angle, or looking to enhance a subject’s inherent beauty, or trying to depict movement, action or behaviour. Many times, of course, Nature provides it's own beauty, enhancement is not needed, I love those moments. Here I offer a variety of works from nature, either realistic or computer-enhanced. My wildlife and landscapes images are substantially as shot, whilst the plant images are processed to enhance patterns and textures.
