I guess I've had an off-and-on love affair with photography my whole life. My father was always taking pictures and movies when I was a kid growing up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s-60s, and he gave me my own Kodak Brownie camera when I was around 6 years old. I remember using it to take pictures of family events and a trip to Washington DC, back in 1958. I still have some of the pictures ....... somewhere.
Photography moved to the back burner during high school, college, and law school, but I picked it up again after I graduated law school in 1979, moved to Washington DC, and began my legal career with the federal government. Being alone in a new city, I would take my camera wherever I went, and I was soon making my own prints in the makeshift darkroom I set up in the bathroom of my efficiency apartment.
'Serious' photography moved to the back burner again when my marriage, kids, and job took up most of my spare time, though I still enjoyed taking tons of shots of my sons as they grew up. Family vacations to national parks and countries around the world sparked my interest in landscape, nature, animal, and cityscape photography. Now, as a retired, empty-nester, I have time to both go off on new photographic adventures and to share my photos online.
