Hi, my name is Pat O'Neill (a self taught artist) and I would like to take you on a mystical journey to explore the ancient art of painting in wax through my encaustic paintings.

The medium is an ancient one dating back to the heady days of Pliny! The word encaustic comes from the Greek word enkaiein, meaning to burn in, referring to the process of fusing the paint. Although they come from the same root word, encaustic should not be confused with caustic, which refers to a corrosive chemical reaction. There is no such hazard with encaustic.

I discovered encaustic art by chance whilst trying to teach myself something new! I love this medium as I never really know where it will take me. Usually it allows me to let my imagination flow unhindered to create incredible illusions.

In addition, I have discovered the wonderful world of fluid acrylic art. There are many forms but my favourite is the chain pull method!! Again, the imagination is a great tool.

Look forward to seeing you and thank you for your time!
