Art has been part of my life since I could first hold a crayon. Art classes in junior and senior high school reaffirmed my passion for putting some sort of medium to paper. Majoring in first business and finally social services in college, I never missed an opportunity for elective art classes. So, even though I do not have any type of formal art degree, painting has been a very large part of my life.
In the 1980s my dentist became my painting mentor. I'd never painted with watercolors and wanted to explore the new medium. He painted in his spare time and eventually retired from dentistry to paint full time. His recommendation to me was to paint 100 paintings of any subject, no matter the outcome, to learn how to control the medium. I followed his sage advice. While I continue to learn the tricks of this unpredictable river of color, I hope you would agree that I have learned a little control.
I started painting watercolor still-life, portraits, and flowers but my increasing fascination with birds, particularly the aloof pelicans, has helped me to evolve into more of a wildlife painter than I ever expected.
Photography has also become for me both an increasingly pleasurable art form and a great source for many of my paintings. I hope you enjoy some of the great sights from my travels.
I have been an active member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon, the California Watercolor Association, the National Watercolor Society, and the Hemet Valley Art Association. My award winning work has been exhibited at watercolor conferences, shows, and is in private collections across the country.
