I am Danny Ray Lowe. I am just an old man who likes to paint. I like to paint something that I can become lost in while I'm painting it and for a while afterwards. I love using the palette knife and think of myself as a paint dauber. I am in my seventies. I am an army veteran with many agent orange related medical problems. I have severe peripheral neuropathy, mainly in my feet and legs, and some in my hands. Even with excellent care the neuropathy has gradually grown worse. I spend a lot of time at the veterans' hospital and am grateful for the VA's care. Painting is my way of coping with the pain, which is ever present but more some days than others. Medication can only go so far in helping with mitigating pain. I have found getting my mind involved in creating something greatly helps in controlling the pain. I paint sitting at my easel beside my computer. My wife is very tolerant of my paint splatters that are inevitable, but is always supportive of my endeavors. She is also tolerant of my filling up our dining room with stacks of paintings. Painting is an excellent coping mechanism for me.
