Description
This bug is a Zelus bug, also called Assassin Bug and it was resting on the flower of a Bull Nettle Plant. Sometimes these bugs are light green, this one is an amber green color. This bug must have felt fairly safe on the flower as you can see the needle hairs of the plant all around it.
Assassin Bugs (Zelus luridus) are also called Zelus bugs. They prey on a large range of insects but mostly larvae. They are actually beneficial predators and are good in gardens. This one is most likely a nymph as it is lime green in color.
Bull Nettle plants (Cnidoscolus texanus ) have needle hairs on them that sting very badly for 30 to 45 minutes if you touch them and some people are highly allergic to the sap in these plants. It is a perennial herbaceous plant and the seeds and taproot are said to be edible. They are also called Texas Bull Nettle, Tread Softly and Spurge Nettle. They are also called Spurge.
