Yemaya is known as the Goddess of the Sea. Yemaya rules over her domain with grace, beauty, and maternal wisdom.
She is the source of the water that gives life. She is a protection Goddess and also resides over fertility and creation. She is a fierce protector of women. When you’re going through a hard time that has a lot to do with emotions, this Goddess is a great one to learn from and to seek comfort with.
Yemaya lives and rules over the seas and lakes. She also rules over maternity in our lives as she is the Mother of All. Her name, a shortened version of Yey Omo Eja means "Mother Whose Children are the Fish" to reflect the fact that her children are so numerous that they are uncountable. As modern sciences has theorizes and ancient cultures have known, life started in the sea. As an embryo we all spend the first moments of our lives swimming in a warm sea of amneotic fluid inside our mother's womb. We must transform and evolve through the form of a fish before becoming a human baby. In this way Yemaya displays herself as truly the mother of all, since she is the seed of all the paths or manifestations.
Yemaya is also often depicted as a mermaid. But symbols and iconography have a way of grounding the spiritual into something more tangible so that we can better understand it. And Yemaya exists outside narrow boxes of classification, outside of iconography. She takes all forms, yet we strive to put a face to her.
She has been connected with the image of Mother Mary. In iconography, both holy mother figures are shown dressed in blue and white. One seen as giving birth to the son of God and one gave birth to all living things.
Her strong and protective energy can be found virtually everywhere, but especially near oceans and lakes. Yemaya's colors are blue and white, and She is said to wear a dress with seven skirts that represent the seven seas. Sacred to Her are peacocks, with their beautiful blue-green iridescence, and ducks. The number seven is Hers, also for the seven seas.

Yemaya has a fierce, nurturing, gentle energy often associated with the moon and sorcery. As the "Mother of All," she is said to help in matters of self-love, fertility, emotional wounds, trauma, and healing work. But if you cross her, disrespect her terrain, or hurt one of her children, she has a serious anger streak.

Yemaya teaches us that things are always changing and that through those changes compassion and gentleness allows us to create and transform through the process. She encourages us to seek the Divine Mother within ourselves, that strongly protective, infinitely loving, aspect that is inside of us all and to turn it inward.
Yemaya is often depicted as a mermaid or as a woman standing among the waves crashing on the shore. You can connect with her by holding a seashell up to your ear and hearing her echo. Visit the ocean, walk through the waves and allow yourself to be cleansed and comforted by her embrace and her gift to all life.

Mussel’s wisdom includes the following: protection, living within the earth, ability to siphon energy, symbiosis, balance, connection to mud/nature and going within. Mussels are a symbol of strength, peace, fertility and profitable times ahead.
The subtle lessons that Mussel teach is one of being an individual while being in the crowd...feeling safe to be YOU. Mussel allows personal expression of gender, ideas and emotions paired with the security of/by and with others. She aids in being true to oneself. She shows how to enact an inner transformation. She teaches how to attach oneself to strong beliefs, convictions and decisions and choices to weather the ebb and flow of the force of life. Rewards are great with patience if you listen.
