Description

The more or less melodic songs of songbirds begin between the calendar and meteorological start of spring. With their songs, they try to attract mates and demarcate their territory.

The verses and motifs of songbirds' songs are produced in the syrinx by muscles that constrict or expand the vocal folds in the bronchi individually or in both, and cause the air that passes through to vibrate in different frequency ranges, making several sounds possible at the same time. High and low tones are produced by changing the shape of the throat and beak opening.
