Description
Winter is on its way out, but snow still covers the ground. The sunlight has melted it a little, so the parking lot is covered in a thick layer of mud. The trees are still bare. Wreaths still hang in some of the windows. A viciously cold wind blows, allowing the cold to reach your very bones. But the sight of Winnekenni Castle causes a smile to spread across your face. It is on the small side, but it looks well built and very picturesque. The memory of trying to drive the road up the hill, especially over one stretch of ruts in a thick sheet of ice, is driven from your brain.
For a while, you can relax and enjoy the view. You can imagine what it would be like to live there. You can dream. Then, another gust of icy wind brings you back down to reality. You snap your pictures and trudge back through the snow and mud back to your car, ready for the trip back down the hill.

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
