Wildflower Sunburst On Stony Pass
I'm not sure if it was the sunburst sunset or all those gorgeous wildflowers but there was definitely something magical going on up there on Stony Pass that evening. I'd heard about great fields of wildflowers on Stony Pass for years and I'd been up there numerous times without seeing anything special but it pays to be persistent. On this trip to the San Juans, they were definitely ready and I'm sure glad I got a great sunset as the icing on the cake!
How I Got The Shot
For me, there were three keys to this image. First, it was important for me to get a good composition with the rock in the opposite corner from the sunburst. Second, I used the magic cloth technique to capture the big dynamic range of the scene from glowing sun to darker foreground flowers in a single exposure. Third, I had to get the timing right with a break in the breeze so all the wildflowers stood still enough to get sharp details and the glowing sunset with big sunburst beams. The great sunburst light didnt last long, so I had to be ready!
