In a series of hikes in the Indian Peaks near Lake Isabelle, I got to line up some good wildflowers with some great conditions including a thin rising moon that made for a beautiful scene. And this familiar location below Lake Isabelle was at least as pretty as I'd remembered.

At first the wildflowers weren't quite ready… then, the moon wasn't quite ready… and then the weather… and then it was all good. On this final night I spent in the Indian Peaks, I got to spend all the time I wanted getting "just one last shot" before heading back down the trail down.

How I Got The Shot
I won an award with a shot I got at this same location years ago. And while it was illuminated by sunlight instead of the moonlight I had here, both featured some gorgeous components - waterfall cascades and colorful bluebell wildflowers. In the right conditions, this is a very pretty combination.

My biggest challenge was the breeze that was blowing around the bluebells. I minimized the effects of the wind by just showing patience by waiting for a period where the breeze didn't blow. Sure enough, it stopped blowing and I got my shot. I blended two exposures with varied focus between the two shots for maximum sharpness in the flowers.

No light painting was used for these images, only moonlight.
