Mixed Media - Acrylic Painting Mixed Media
This colorful autumn water landscape was originally a photographic abstract image of fall reflections in a waterlily pond. I usually prefer the "myopic" view and zoomed in on the waterlily pads because of their color. Happily, the greens, bronzes and golds of the turning leaves reflected in the water. The result ended up being very "painterly." I decided to actually turn this image into a "mixed media" painting by printing the photograph on canvas and enhancing the colors by adding acrylic paints. The foreground lily bud which is just in its early opening stage, was originally only a closed bud and not easily seen. I painted over it to create the white water lily. I feel that the painting gave more of a shimmering reflective quality to the water and gave more pop to the colors.
This beautiful, tranquil scene was found in a lovely garden in the mountains of north Georgia. The conditions were right that year for a spectacular autumn display of color.
I am an exhibiting artist in southwest Florida and my art has been exhibited in galleries in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina and is in collections nationwide. I create abstract photography, mixed media photo painting, acrylic mixed media, and acrylic paintings. Many would make great decorative throw pillows or shower curtains. I've even had a couple abstracts made into my personal cell phone covers. Please check out my Facebook page Doodleng Art by Sharon Eng for announcements and more information about my art.
