Original watercolor painting, 'Golden-tailed Sapphire', by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. I had the good fortune of viewing these beautiful, small, colorful, iridescent hummingbirds while visiting Wildsumaco preserve. This refuge lies on the eastern slopes of the Andes in northern Ecuador, in the cloud forest above the Amazon. These birds are fairly common in this location, though like many birds in South America, they are only locally common and one isn't likely to see them at all on the opposite slope of the mountains, for example. This piece would be perfect for any bird lover, and most especially for those who have visited the tropical forests of South America and love the diversity of wildlife and beauty of nature in the remaining tropical rainforest.
