Description
Up along the Northern California Coast a couple hours north of San Francisco in Mendocino County is the old fishing town of Ft Bragg.
Ft Bragg has quite a bit of history for being such a small town. At the beginning it was an outpost for the US Army in an established Indian reservation. Later becoming a lumber town with mills on all of the local creeks that empty into the ocean. The Union Lumber Company was incorporated in 1891 by absorbing many of the smaller lumber companys in the area.
The town saw major damage during the 06 Earthquake leaving only 2 brick buildings standing. Many wood framed buildings were knocked off of their foundation.
In this picture you see the trestles of the Pudding Creek Bridge. The bridge was built in 1915 as a railroad bridge that helped move the north coast lumber. In 1949 the bridge was converted to a one lane logging truck bridge.
The bridge halted service to motor vehicles in the late 70's.
It wasn't until the year 2007 when the bridge was converted to a pedestrian/cycling bridge.
To make a long story short, the first time I saw the bridge I knew that it would become one of my favorite subjects in Ft Bragg. Every time I am in the area I seem to find myself looking for a new perspective of this old bridge. I hope you like this.
