There is lots of history here. This photo I took is not the original Virginia Street Bridge, this is the beautifully renovated Virginia Street Bridge.

The original bridge was built in 1905 by the Cotton Brothers and Company of Oakland, CA. It is the oldest functioning bridge in Reno. And did you know that it was the first reinforced concrete bridge in the State of Nevada? Wow! It was built in 1905 and opened to the public one year later in 1906.

This bridge was a "historic concrete double arch bridge in downtown Reno, Nevada, US, carrying Virginia Street across the Truckee River. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The bridge is sometimes referred to as the "Wedding Ring Bridge" or the "Bridge of Sighs"."

The ribbon cutting ceremony for the renovated Virginia Street Bridge took place on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. And to think just one year after that in July 2017 I actually walked across the bridge not knowing it's amazing history and that this bridge was an historical landmark. Now that is truly exciting, wouldn't you agree?
