Description
Steeple and bell tower of First Lutheran Church, Ketchikan, Alaska, founded in 1925 by Scandinavians, most Norwegian. They flooded the area as the fishing industry boomed across Southeast Alaska in the 1910s to 1920s.This grand church, on a rock promontory on Alaska’s Inside Passage, was finished in 1930 and anchored what was then called Newtown. The charming and beautiful architectural landmark has stood prominently over Newtown, now Ketchikan, for nearly a century.
This large uncropped full-frame image was converted to black-and-white high-key with a subtle filter, further augmenting the details of this charming structure. Captured on a cloudy, rainy day, allowing the vintage steeple, and its bell tower or belfry, to be showcased on a white sky. No people. Large enough for a king-size duvet cover or sofa print.
Nikon D7100, Nikkor 50mm/f1.8 lens, circular polarizer, and ND filter, shot outdoors with available light and converted to black-and-white high-key.
