DC-3 WAS THE PERFECT AIRPLANE AT THE PERFECT TIME IN HISTORY 1935 AND STILL FLYING TODAY W/O ANY DISASSENBLY IN THE AIR, THE FIRST AIRPLANE AIRLINES COULD MAKE A PROFIT WITH FLYING PASSENGERS. THEN THOUSANDS BUILT AS C-47'S DURING THE WAR. MAYBE, JUST MAYBE THE GREATEST AIRPLANE OF ALL TIME. tHE GOONEY, THE DAKOTA, THE SKY TRAIN. THE FIRST SPOOKY GUNSHIP IN VIET NAM. THEY HAULED PARATROOPS, TOWED GLIDERS, FLEW IN AND OUT OF SHORT FIELDS AND WERE FREQUENTLY OVERLOADED. WHEN THEY APPEARED AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE BOEING THEY DOMINATED THE AIRLINES OF THE WORLD. THEY REPLACED THE DC-2 WHICH LOOKED LIKE IT BUT WAS A STIFFLEGGED WILD BUCKING BRONCO TO LAND. THEY COULD CARRY A LOT OF ICE. THEY WERE DOCIL;E AND EASY TO FLY. WONDERFULLY RELIABLE LINDBERG FLEW THE ROCKIES ON ONE ENGINE IN THE FIRST DC-3.
