Description
Maine is home to sixty five lighthouses! We have over three thousand miles of coastline and some of that coastline is rugged and very dangerous to boaters. My husband and I sailed from our hometown in Yarmouth to Mount Desert Island in five days. On our trip, I was fortunate to see many lighthouses. This is the Owl's Head Lighthouse just at the entrance to Rockland Maine. We had sailed up from Tenants Harbor and this lighthouse greeted us as we made our way to Rockland. Such a beautiful beacon of safety and shelter!
"The Owls Head Light Station's tower was constructed in 1825 and rebuilt in 1852. It stands atop a steep rise near Rockland Harbor, 100 feet above the water. The keeper's house, built in the 1850s, is down a steep set of stairs from the light." (https://visitmaine.com/things-to-do/lighthouses-sightseeing/owls-head)
