Description
We were hiking from Varenna to Bellano in the Lake Como area of Italy. The first leg is uphill from Varenna to the tiny hamlet of Vezio where the grounds of an ancient castle provide a nice break for exploration as well as fantastic views of the lake. Unfortunately, the grounds didn’t open until 10 am so we had about 30 minutes to sit and enjoy the early morning sunshine! No matter how small the village in Italy, there is always a church! In a small piazza sits the Chiesa di Sant’Antonio Abate di Vezio. The church is of medieval origin, but was re-founded in 1570 in the Baroque period, and again decorated at the beginning of the last century. Sadly it wasn’t open for a peek inside!
