Description
When you hear the word “vacation”, your mind probably goes immediately to a block of time, a week or two where you are away from your job. A period where you’re able to take a break and relax. Perhaps catch up on projects, embark on a new adventure with the family. Then again I have overheard some people say, “I need a vacation from my vacation”. The hustle and bustle of cramming all of their desperately needed “away time” into a few relatively short days, is often exhausting and leaves a lot of folks frazzled….
I’ve been blessed. Having been self-employed the majority of my life, whenever anyone asked “What do you do?” I’ve always replied, “I’m on vacation!” Aside from a few “hiccups” through the years (re: health/body issues) I have taken advantage of the opportunities and visions, doing the things I loved. The garage, insurance office, trucking have ALL allowed me to pursue related side-interests. Something I will expound on later…
Meanwhile, my absence from here is easily explained by the fact that I’ve been “on vacation…”
When I hear someone tell me, “I’m tired” I really can’t relate. MY kind of exhaustion is a different kind of fatigue because for the most part, I’ve always loved everything I was involved in. Yes, a lot of it is still hard work, and yes, I DO juggle a half a dozen projects at once, but in the end, the difficulties and frustrations have been worth it…
Last week, when hooking up the camper, one of the neighbors stopped by and asked, “You going on vacation?” “Naww. We’re just going out to the river to collect some art inspiration.”
Once set up at the campground, I noticed some folks hurrying here and scampering there in order to cram in their “vacation” time into the few short days they have available. Us? I sipped my coffee, feeling fortunate to see the sun come up for the 22,802nd time in my life. When breakfast was out of the way, I grabbed the camera and the dogs and found this little guy, all by himself…
“The Power Of Small Wins” which ran in the Harvard Business Review May, 2011 stated: “People who make progress every day toward something they care about, report being satisfied and fulfilled.”
Today, this one discovery left me “satisfied and fulfilled…”
