Description
This is another of my experiments with the utilization of a very dark watercolor background. It is amazing how it really makes these "white" flowers pop! I am intrigued by the high contrast of the painting. The original is 10.25"x14.25" in size and is painted with Rublev watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper.

Lovely painting, Ken! I especially like the subtle hints of pink and blue around the edges of the petals.

I love these very high contrast florals....they look great! The deep yellow gives great definition to the petals, then the soft pastel shades of pink & blue soften it.....just lovely.

WOW!! You're right! They really do pop out. Great contrast with the black background. Well done Ken.

Beautifully painted, Ken! Your tonal values in the flowers are great - especially, that light touch of pink to some of the petals. And yes, the dark background definitely brings them out.
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Bette! A lot of fun experimenting with the dark backgrounds! This one is a mix of Prussian Blue and German Vine Black!
