Description
The tulip is one of the iconic signs of spring. They were probably cultivated in Persia from the 10th century, but it was only in the 16th century when they got to the attention of the Western world, when Ottoman diplomats mentioned them. Soon they were introduced into Europe and have become associated with the Netherlands, the major producer ever since.
