Description
The name Trout Lily refers to the similarity between the leaf markings and those of the brown or brook trout. It is found from southern Ontario to Georgia, west to Kentucky, Missouri, and Oklahoma, and north to Minnesota. Trout lily is one of the early spring wildflowers. Most growth and development occurs during the spring before the trees fully develop their leaves. Cherokee Indians supposedly would: chew the root and spit it in the water as they fished to make fish bite. They would also warm the leaves, crush them and pour the liquid over wounds to heal them.
