Treverbyn China Clay Pit in St Austell Cornwall with the giant spoil heaps towering above in the distance.
At one time the spoil heaps were conical and before vegetation grew over them they were called the Cornish Alps. After the Aberfan disaster in 1966 all the tops were taken off the higher spoil heaps so a similar tragedy couldn't happen in Cornwall.
