Description
Private Eyes is the second and last album by Tommy Bolin an American guitarist, singer- songwriter who died on 4 December 1976 at the age of 25 by a drug overdose, sadly joining the growing list of early losses of musical artist. He was a founding member of Zephyr from 1969 to 1971 when the group dismembered. He joined The James Gang after Joe Walsh departed, 1973 to 74 and then Deep Purple after Ritchie Blackmore departed, 1975-76. He died in Miami while the group was opening for Jeff Beck. Never seeming to gain the fans approval of the guitarist he replaced seemed to heavily contribute to a depression that lead to his death.
The album faded into obscurity. It did receive a 4.5 of 5 rating by AllMusic and I find it a great hard hitting rock album with inspired guitar and bass riffs, horn interludes, outstanding percussion, and a wonderful mix of track tempos. Needless to say It was very well produced by Tommy and Dennis MacKay for Columbia Records.
