Description
Three Stooges Graffiti: This is a MUST HAVE image of the amazing The Three Stooges" for your Home, Man Cave or Office that Guarantees to get Plenty of Smiles.
The Three Stooges were an American vaudeville and comedy act of the early to mid 20th century best known for their numerous short subject films.
Their hallmark was physical farce and slapstick. In films, the Stooges were commonly known by their first names: "Moe, Larry, and Curly" or "Moe, Larry, and Shemp," among other lineups depending on the films. .
I was just a small child that discovered the amazingly funny "The Three Stooges" and at that time they didn't have many shows or cartoons on television that could ever make me laugh as hard and even as a youngster myself, I got the jokes and Curly became my favorite of the three, but one was no good without the others.
It just worked and many comedians learned from these guys.
In 1930, Ted Healy and His Stooges appeared in their first Hollywood feature film, Soup to Nuts, released by Fox Film Corporation.
The film was not a critical success, but the Stooges' performances were singled out as memorable, leading Fox to offer the trio a contract minus Healy.
This enraged Healy, who told studio executives that the Stooges were his employees.
The offer was withdrawn, and after Howard, Fine and Howard learned of the reason, they left Healy to form their own act, which quickly took off with a tour of the theater circuit
The act that started as Ted Healy and his Southern Gentlemen, consisting of Moe Howard, his brother Shemp, and Larry Fine.
This threesome did one feature film entitled Soup to Nuts before Shemp left to pursue a solo career.
He was replaced by his brother Curly and the trio became The Three Stooges.
With Shemp gone, Healy and the two remaining stooges (Moe and Larry) needed a replacement, so Moe suggested his younger brother Jerry Howard.
Healy reportedly took one look at Jerry, who had long chestnut red locks and a handlebar mustache, and remarked that he did not look like he was funny.
Jerry left the room and returned a few moments later with his head shaved (though his mustache remained for a time), and then quipped "Boy, do I look girly." Healy heard "Curly", and the name stuck.
There are varying accounts as to how the Curly character actually came about, but it was an amazing fact to discover that Moe, Shemp and Jerry Howard "Curly" were really actual brothers.
I have never seen anyone named Moe or Shemp again in my life time and often wonder just where the heck did their parents come up with those names?
Larry died from a series of strokes in January 1975. Moe tried one final time to revive the Stooges with longtime supporting actor Emil Sitka in Larry's role, but this attempt was cut short with Moe's passing in May 1975 and then it was over and lost forever.
But that comedy lives on today and not many people do not know of The Three Stooges or did not see them growing up.
Most all of us still have a place in our hearts where they remain to live on today.
