This unique lighthouse, Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, located in the Chesapeake Bay on the East Coast of the United States outside of Annapolis, Maryland, is a hexagon wooden cottage sitting on top of a shoal. It is an historic screw-pile light station with both a light and a foghorn and is no longer manned by individuals. It is the most recognized lighthouse in Maryland. It is listed in the national Register of Historic Places as well as the National Historic Landmarks.
It is owned by the city of Annapolis, Maryland, and is maintained by the County of Anne Arundel, the Annapolis Maritime Museum, and the Chesapeake Chapter of the U.S. Lighthouse Society. The United States Coast Guard continues to maintain the navigational aids. It is open to the public three months of the year.
With its red roof and unusual hexagon structure, it is a visual delight against the blue water and blue sky. Nothing like a summer day and a boat ride to relax the mind and take your cares away.
