This Ole Tree. Pacific Madrone
Photograph - Outdoor Color Photo
Vertical color landscape photograph that features the gnarly roots and nicely shaped trunk and branches of a large old Pacific madrone tree near the edge of Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park, in the state of Washington, USA. White sky is seen above the Olympic Mountains across the lake; no people.
According to Coniferous Forest, one source of information on trees in Washington State, the Pacific madrone has reddish-brown, scaly bark and only grows near salt water. It has broad leaves but does not lose them in winter. Also called a bayberry or strawberry tree.
Nikon D80, Nikkor 50mm/f1.8 lens, with circular polarizer and ND filter, shot outdoors with available light. No special effects.
