It was hidden in plain sight as she said it would be... his grandfather's cigar box .. just sitting there on the shelf with other boxes filled with scarfs, gloves and lace collars long forgotten .... how did she know? ... really didn't matter since he had the box ... he only had to open it and if she was right it would be there... he took the box off the shelf ... ..........

she told him he had to get as far away as possible or they would know ... he laughed at himself as he put the box in the pack ... just who they were he really didn't know but she knew ... he really wanted to make sure it was there ... no use taking chances ... he had to trust her ... she got him this far ...

days later he got his chance ... he was reasonably sure he wasn't followed ... placing the box on the table in front of him he unlatched the lock and lifted the lid ... it was empty ... ..........

she could hardly believe she did it ... it was almost too easy ... the ruby flame broach ... she slipped it back into the velvet pouch around her neck ... it was safe ... at least for now ... they would be hunting him not her ..........
