My oldest niece is a very talented woman... we often get to work together in collaboration (which for me is a childhood dream come true!) A few months ago, I asked her for some poems on relationships and this is one that really resonated with me. As soon as I read it, I immediately knew I wanted to paint something to accompany it. Here's the poem that inspired both the journal painting and the stamps I designed for future relationship works.


*The Man God Called You To Be*

Dear Lord,
To You I prayed for a man to come and rescue me
My prince, my hero, my faithful friend, the one that you chose for me
A tall, handsome Christian man that will treat me as a man should
One who would make me experience an ecstasy as only you could
Well Father, I found him and I thank you for such a treasure
He�s a gift like no other, incomparable in measure
His touch can send quivers up and down my spine
And he cherishes me in such a way.... I�m so glad that he�s mine
He may not be as handsome or as tall as I would have chose
He may not be the best at cooking, dancing or washing clothes
He may not be my hero, but he is my best friend
He may not be a prince but he�s my King on whom I can depend
He may not be able to totally rescue me
But I love him and allow him to be who

This is a page from the art journal I use to test out stamp designs when I'm carving my own rubber stamps. It was made using a stamp from one of my drawings, acrylic paint, ink, and gelatos on 90# mixed media paper.
