The Magical Moment
It's one thing to see nature but to really experience it together with others (who value it as well) can be even more magical. This scene at Delicate Arch was one of those magical moments with great scenery, timing & conditions including a setting moon, a glowing Milky Way, and a great group of people making the most of it. Most of the people there were in our workshop and everyone was working together, capturing great images, and having a wonderful experience under the stars.
Some people are turned off by the crowds at the national parks but it's experiences like this that put a big smile on everyone's face. I don't think anyone (including the people who weren't even in our workshop) left without one that night. :-)
How I Got The Shot
To make this image come to life, I needed some time to really think about creative compositions. After having been here many times and having spent some time exploring the surrounding areas, I found some less traditional perspectives. So on this night when the conditions were lining up, I decided to go for an image from one of those creative perspectives. Technically, I just shot a sequence in a vertical orientation with about 50% overlap - right before the moon dropped below the horizon.
