Description
Throughout the world, there are many beautiful and impressive castles, mansions, temples, and skyscrapers – buildings created by human hands that cause us to stop and gape in awe.
“Do people actually live in these places?†we wonder because most of us, if we’re ordinary human beings living good, honest, ordinary lives, don’t find ourselves surrounded by opulence and luxury. The grand edifices of man, for most of us, are to be viewed from a distance.
But in nature, there are grand, beautiful, majestic places that are not cut off from the lives of good, honest, ordinary people. Throughout the planet, there are mountains and seas, canyons and meadows, lakes and fields where we can walk, dream, wonder, and simply be.
One of these places is Zion National Park in Utah, in the southwest USA. Because this is a national park, there is an entrance fee, but once in – or in the surrounding areas where one can access without the fee – one wanders through a landscape that is filled with high, steeply rising cliffs and rocks.
These magnificent forms loom over our heads and encircle us where we stand, and we feel as if we are in some great and beautiful entrance hall. The artwork, The Halls of Zion, invites us into just such a world – a world of quiet yet imposing splendor, a world in which we feel very small indeed, but not because we are belittled and put down, but because we are surrounded by such great, grand, imposing natural structures. This feeling of smallness is a good smallness, because it reminds us that we are not gods on the planets, but residents.
Trails wind and wend their way through the park, some well marked, others not, but most clear to follow because many feet have been here before us. These paths take us through the halls, and the closer we approach the rocks the more they cast their shadows before us.
(A companion piece to The Halls of Zion is Zion’s Watchman, also on this site.)

To the buyer from California: To stand before these monolithic behemoths of stone is to see the power of nature and time and catastrophic events. It makes one feel small yet at the same time empowered and exultant. May this artwork bring that empowerment in to your life and home. Enjoy the view!

For me, your bold brushstrokes convey the raw power and beauty of Zion. For those who have not visited, this creation coveys the majesty well !
