Description
The Eye Of The Owl -The Goobe Series
Acrylic on canvas
“Look into my eyes and hear what I am not saying, for my eyes speak louder than my voice ever will...”
- Unknown
The owl has a deep significance in many cultures – and commonly associated with mysticism, intelligence and wisdom. The Owl, or "Ulooka" in Sanskrit and "Goobe" in Kannada, is Goddess Lakshmi's vahana (vehicle). It is said that by keeping the owl as her vehicle, she teaches us to open our eyes to the light of the wisdom residing within us. The eyes of the owl are often the most striking feature of the bird. Their eyes are extremely expressive and I have tried to portray my owls in the Goobe Series with a range of possibly human expressions.
Whether animal or human – it is through the eyes you connect to the soul!
This painting is one of five that I recently made, capturing different expressions of Owls. This series was recently featured in a prominent art gallery in Bangalore.

Revisiting another favorite of mine, Dear Pavitha. Away from my studio now for over two weeks, I just had to see this image that I enjoy viewing every time I paint.

You are so welcome Pavitha! I would love to know your thoughts of the what, why, how, when, and where of this piece. What is your perspective of your fabulous artwork here. You mentioned that you give human expressions to your owls. 💕
Pavitha Ashwin replied:
Hi Janet - I have always felt that Owls have such wise and almost human like expressions...i have seen many videos showing affection between owls (as pets) and humans, and they almost seem like a bird version of cats. About this artwork, this was the first of my owl paintings and I wanted to convey a sense of mystery and attraction in the owl

Wow Pavitha! I love this one, fabulous! So many possibilities, knowing you want to capture your owls with human emotions or expressions. What first came to my mind is that the owl is looking back, having to say goodbye, wishing he didn’t have to. Possibly having regrets. Should I get on that plane or stay. Wonderful and marvelous artwork! LVFV Janet 💕
