The Dunes - Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes at Death Valley National Park, California. Sometimes one has to look past the big picture to find a unique image. The Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes were crowded this day and covered with footprints from days of people wandering through the dunes. I decided I wanted to make a different image so I searched for an abstract composition of the Dunes - eliminating the sky, people, and footprints. With a little help from the morning sun, I found the image that I visualized in my mind. The contrast between light and shadowed dunes against the muted, out-of-focus Grapevine Mountains in the background exudes the breadth and depth of the Dunes.
