Description
St. Thomas’ Parish is an historic and popular church in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC. In 1970, a fire destroyed the church’s entire sanctuary and for fifty years the church continued to operate, holding its services in a large social hall and a few smaller rooms that were not destroyed. As a resident of Dupont Circle, St. Thomas has been my polling location for local and national elections for nearly forty years. Finally, in 2017, St. Thomas had the money to begin construction of a large sanctuary to replace the one destroyed decades before. Completed in 2020, the new addition not only has the much needed sanctuary, but also contains additional offices, social and meeting rooms, and even residences for the clergy. The most distinctive feature of the new addition to the old parish is a towering cross on the white facade of the building.
