Texas Route 66
Photograph - Photography And Digital Art
It’s not the prettified version in Winslow and it’s not even in Arizona. Like much of historic Route 66, this sign painted on the road in Vega Texas is battered and worn out. After the completion of the interstate highway system, the road and the small towns along its route began to decline as travelers opted for faster travel. In its heyday in the early to mid 20th century, Route 66 served as a primary route for those who migrated west, especially during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. The road supported the economies of the communities through which it passed and people doing business along the route became prosperous due to the growing popularity of the highway. Today, this and other remnants of the ‘mother road’ slowly decay.
