Take The Stairs To The Waves

Description
Stairway down to beach at sunrise on Outer Banks in North Carolina near Cape Hatteras.
Waking up before sunrise on a fall morning, I spent the pre-dawn photographing and enjoying the brightening sky against the ocean. When the sun had fully risen, I made my way up the stairs to our motel room. Sometimes you need to turn around and look behind you to get the shot.

Oh, I would love to! Beautiful point of view leading the viewer down the steps and into the waves!
Joni Eskridge replied:
Thanks Debra. I highly recommend a fall trip here after the tourists have left. At the top of the stairs was the hotel we stayed at. Right on the water, and all to ourselves. I suppose if you have your heart set on swimming and sun bathing, it might not be the greatest, but for enjoying the ocean, sunrises and sunsets and shore birds, as well as hiking in the dunes not far from here, or visiting light houses - it was a great time.

So lovely, the scene looks tanned!
Joni Eskridge replied:
Thanks Terry. It was fun to be there in the fall, after all the tourists had left, but with still warm weather. Getting up before sunrise wasn't the easiest, but well worth the views - and this picture with the pristine sand. Thanks for the visit!

Love the rich colors in this one, the power of the breaking wave, the sparkle of the light on the water, and the subtle texture of the sand as a backdrop for the strong lines of the boardwalk, stairway, and shadow. This is one of my two Picks of the Day in the Best of Minimalism in Photography group for August 3.

Ah, Joni, this is one of my favorite views - nothing quite like watching a new day rise over the ocean. You've captured perfectly the sea's message of "I've started this beautiful day - you take it from here." And it definitely makes me smile, too. My Fav today!
Joni Eskridge replied:
Thank you Rene for your kind words. Appreciate the visit. Glad you enjoyed the beach ( :

I love your composition here Joni, terrific shot!
Joni Eskridge replied:
Thanks Carol. It was fun looking for "the shot" on an unrushed day at the ocean with very few people around and a room just up those steps!

The composition and light here is just stunning, a job well done Joni.
Joni Eskridge replied:
Thank you Skip for your kind words. Not normally a morning person, I didn't mind getting up early when it meant being 20 feet from the ocean shore with the leisure to look around and see what peaked my interest. Took a number of shots of this stairway, but this one made me smile. Glad you liked it.
