Description
Beautiful Tahquamenon Falls in my favorite season, autumn!! Upper Tahquamenon Falls located in Paradise Michigan within Tahquamenon Falls State Park is stunning any time of year, but fall to me is the best!!
The brownish cast you see in the water is the result of tannic acid which leaches into the river from Cedar and Hemlock swamps along the river.
The poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellowin his famous poem "Hiawatha" described this place calling it "rushing Tahquamenaw". The Native American Ojibwa used to camp along the shores of the river where they partook of the abundant fish!!
The Tahquamenon River itself is home to Walleye, Pike, Muskie, Smallmouth Bass, Perch, and Trout!! Quite a fisherman's paradise!!
