Description
Panorama at sunset of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu, just outside the village of Gharb on the island of Gozo, Malta.
The church is a Roman Catholic minor basilica, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu. The current basilica was built from 1922 and consecrated ten years later in 1932, although a Shrine to Our Lady of Ta' Pinu has existed on the site since at least the 16th century. The basilica was visited by Pope John Paull II and Pope Benedict XVI, who donated and placed a golden rose in front of the devotional image of Our Lady Of Ta' Pinu in 2010.
The church is located about half a mile outside the village of Gharb in some of the most picturesque countryside on Gozo. Gharb is the Maltese word for West and the village is the most westerly place on the island.
