Sunshine On My Shoulder
Photograph - Outdoor Color Photo
On the shoulder of a rural road near Brenham, Texas, USA, we came upon these pretty yellow flowers blooming in springtime, brightening the cloudy day. Blue wildflowers, likely one of six species of bluebonnets, the state flower of Texas, are mingled with the yellow. Bluebonnets often have a purplish tone, and even the fence posts look purplish here. Native trees fill the background with green.
Yellow and purple are complementary colors, so I found this scene quite beautiful in its simplicity. As I recall, this was captured a little northwest of Brenham as we meandered our way to Independence, a town rich in history and the homesite of Baylor University. Sam Houston and his family lived here in the 1850s.
Nikon D80, Nikkor 50mm/f1.8 lens (circular polarizer) and ND filter, shot outdoors with available light. No sky; no people. Image has been given an artistic touch.
