Title
Sunset At Rubjerg Knude
Artist
Robert Lacy
Medium
Photograph - Photography
Description
The abandoned lighthouse at Rubjerg Knude, which ceased to exist as a functioning lighthouse in 1968 due to the constantly shifting sands around it. It has since become a major tourist attraction. Worried that it soon collapse into the North Sea on account of the constant eroding cliffs, it was shifted inland 70 meters (230 feet) on specially built rails to ensure its survival until at 2060 on the current rate of erosion of the cliffs around it (about 1.5 metres a year). I took this photo about a half hour before sunset a few years before it was moved back from the cliff edges.
