Sunrise On The Dunes 2
Photograph - Digital Photograph
My fascination with dunes continues. We spent three days at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in southern Colorado. The beauty of the dunes and the mountains in the background is magnificent. My strong preference is to create an abstract, or as Ansel Adams preferred to say, an "extract", when faced with geomorphic features such as sand dunes. This image is a good example of extracting a simple scene but with impact. The varying tones of blue (less blue in this image as compared to the other two) and tan are a result of changing angle of the dune faces relative to the available light, even though it's in a shadow. This is one of three photographs captured from roughly the same location but separated by only a minute or two in time. One can see the change in hues as well as light.
