Description

Summer Blooms is an acrylic painting on canvas, capturing wildly blooming flowers, especially geraniums, in my friend’s garden. When I took the photograph, I just knew I had to paint this one and I have, several times. This painting reminds me of my friend and summer and brightens my mood whenever I see it.
Geranium is a magical, beautiful, and powerful energetic ally. Her bright feminine, cheerful energy signature repels all forms of negativity. No surprise that aroma therapists consider geranium oil essential for feminine health. Common varieties of geranium vibrate with the strong healing and protective aspects of the Divine Feminine. Rose geraniums offer Venus-like softer, more receptive energies. Radiating life force energy, Geranium vibrations are grounding, strengthening, protective, mood boosting and profoundly positive.
Drought resistant and heat tolerant, they are extremely popular garden bedding plants and are perennial in warm climates. A number of cultivars or hybrids have been developed including, ivy-leafed or trailing which are popular in hanging baskets; Regal varieties with large flowers and wrinkled leaves; and most common, Zonal varieties, with their colored zone in the center of a round leaf.
The range of scented geraniums is amazing including almond, apple, coconut, lemon, nutmeg, rose’ strawberry, ginger, orange, peppermint, and lime. It is not surprising that the perfume industry cultivates and distills geraniums for their scents. The edible leaves and flowers are used in teas, jellies, cakes and other desserts as flavorings – rose, lemon and peppermint being the most common.

My mother painted in oils when I was young and encouraged my own drawing, painting and handcrafting in all forms. My father, the photographer, gave me my first camera at age 8. As a result of these loving influences, I am a lifelong student of both mediums. I am grateful to my wonderful Pacific NW painter teachers, Stan Capon and Edi Olson, for training my eye and technique. I hope you will enjoy this image as much as I enjoyed its creation.
