Description
"Stowe, Vermont, Community Church in Autumn" by Catherine Sherman.
A waxing crescent moon is just barely visible as it rises above a mountain in Stowe, Vermont.
Stowe's iconic white church stands among foliage beginning to transform into its Autumn wardrobe. The Stowe Community Church is one of the oldest non-denominational churches in the country.
Stowe is a small New England town known for its nearby mountain resort and the home of the Trapp Family Lodge. The town has a small population of only about 5,000, but it is second largest in area in Vermont.
Stowe was chartered June 8, 1763 by Royal Governor Benning Wentworth of the New Hampshire colony.
